Which AI matches you? ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Grok compared
“Which AI should we pay for?” is the question we hear most from business owners right now. The honest answer is another question: which job do you want done?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Grok all answer questions well. The difference is what else they can do, and inside which apps. Each one is great at two or three things and weak at one or two. This is not a ranking. It is a match.
How many AI tools do you need?
One. Two at most. One that matches your daily work, and maybe one extra for a specific job like video or the email app your team lives in. Paying for three “just in case” is the most common AI mistake we see in small businesses.
One more thing before you compare: every brand sells three sizes, a fast one, an everyday one and a deep thinker. The free version is usually the small one, so do not judge a brand by its free plan.
ChatGPT: the one everyone knows
Good for
- Everyday questions, drafts and brainstorming. It remembers your past chats and preferences.
- Images and voice in one app. Since October, answers can come back as charts and buttons you can tap.
- Scheduled tasks: a daily summary, a weekly check, a reminder with research attached.
Not great for
- Video. OpenAI closed its Sora video app in April 2026.
- Long, careful documents. Good, but not its strongest side.
Gemini: the one for Google people
Good for
- Gmail, Drive, Docs and Sheets. It reads your own files and writes back into them.
- Video and images. Gemini Omni makes short realistic clips with sound; Nano Banana makes images.
- Research. Deep research reports, and NotebookLM for your own documents.
Not great for
- Outside Google. Most of the value lives inside Google’s own apps.
- The newest model (Gemini 4 Argon, rolling out since 13 October) is only on the higher plans.
Claude: the one that does the work
Good for
- Long documents. Contracts, reports and long PDFs: it reads all of it and keeps the detail.
- Real files, not just text. Docs, slides, dashboards, spreadsheets and code.
- Multi-step work. Give it a job across your apps; it does it and asks before anything risky.
Not great for
- Images and video. It does not generate them.
- Casual chat. It is a worker more than a companion.
Copilot: the one for Microsoft offices
Good for
- Outlook and Teams. Meeting notes, thread summaries, drafts in your tone.
- Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It works inside the files you already have, with your company data.
- Nothing new to learn. Same apps, same login, and you can switch between OpenAI and Anthropic models inside it.
Not great for
- Solo founders on Gmail. It is an add-on to Microsoft 365, not a standalone app.
- Messy files. It is only as good as your company’s data is organised.
Grok: the one that’s live on X
Good for
- What is happening right now. It reads X in real time: news, trends, what people say about your niche.
- Quick visuals. Grok Imagine makes images and short clips fast.
- Fewer filters. Blunt answers and less hedging, for people who want it direct.
Not great for
- If you are not on X. Most of its edge comes from X’s feed.
- Brand-safe content. Fine for drafts, not for your final brand video.
So which one matches you?

- Your business runs on Gmail and Google Drive: Gemini.
- Your team lives in Outlook and Teams: Copilot.
- You write long documents, proposals and analysis, or want AI to do tasks, not just answer: Claude.
- You want one app for a bit of everything: ChatGPT.
- You need to know what is trending today: Grok.
- You make images and short videos every week: Gemini.
Pick the one that matches your main job, then go deep on it. The value is in the setup: connecting it to your email, files and tools so it works on your real business, not in switching between five apps.
Our view, checked October 2026. Model names and features change every month, so treat this as a map, not a contract. Brand names belong to their owners.
